What is Bee Pollen?
Bee Pollen boasts an excellent profile of nutrients. It contains an incredible array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes & co-enzymes that are essential to a functioning human body. It is made up of about 250 substances including macro- and micronutrients, lipids, and flavonoids. It is especially rich in B vitamins and antioxidants which is why some make the very large claim that it may be nature’s most perfect food! Where does Bee Pollen come from?
Bee pollen is the result of a clever process carried out by bees involving flower pollen, nectar, enzymes, honey and wax. It starts off with the powdery substance plants use to reproduce. Foraging honey bees collect the pollen from flowing plants, which contain the male reproductive parts, and carry it with their legs to the worker bees in the hive. The worker bees pack the pollen into the little honeycomb cells (also known as the brood chamber) and add a small amount of beeswax, nectar and honey to make the tasty little granules. These granules are then harvested carefully before fermentation occurs.
Bee keepers harvest the pollen granules in a sustainable and safe way so as to not disrupt the balance of the bee colony’s ecosystem. Collecting pollen does not harm the bees. Like with honey, only a small amount is taken each time to ensure the bees still have plenty food source to feed themselves and their young. We source our Bee Pollen from Spain.
